First thing that you do when you wake up in the morning? Check your insta feed! Right? Gone are the days where we’d begin our day with a morning walk followed by sitting in our verandah, sipping tea and just relaxing! Today, where our everyday lives are pretty much controlled by our devices and people are slaves to the prowess of social media, we decided to pause and reflect. You know, reflect on the simpler times, a time where hand-craftsmanship ruled the roost, a time of organic abundance and not engineered reality, where the only thing ‘Smart’ were people and not devices, and Simplicity was elegance! One such element that brought with it waves of nostalgia, reminiscent of our childhood days, matched with a whisper of comfort and a sight that used to be common to most homes- the very humble, CANE.
Durable, natural, organic and ofcourse timeless, every piece of cane furniture feels like it has a story to tell. Close your eyes, and it’ll take you back to your family home, with it’s large airy verandah, overlooking a backyard with magnificent Magnolia trees. The verandah brought alive with the simplicity of cane chairs or ottomans or even a cane diwan! Sigh, we can almost smell the sublime fragrance of the Magnolia flowers.
Given our love for designs and décor ideas that emote, we decided to bring back the art of cane furniture, but with a twist that makes it relevant for the time. We envisioned a home that truly highlighted the functionality and aesthetic of cane without going overboard.
Starting with the living room, have a look at our ‘Quint’ chairs with handcrafted cane work on the back and an upholstered seat. Old school but way too cool! It was literally us recreating the past with a present day flavor. The other flavor that would go best with the Quint, is that of bun maska and masala chai. Agreed?
Next up is the ‘Sage’ sofa bench. Designed to be light yet comfortable, it’s where we imagine spending our weekends in, a bestseller in one hand and a cappuccino in another!
For those, who like us believe that “Sleep is the best meditation”, our artisans truly extracted the versatility of cane giving us the ‘Cumin’ bed- a place where we’d like to be meditating through the week! To further create complimentary pieces of the collection, the Cumin wardrobe follows in queue!
Hands down, this collection was one of our most soul satisfying creations, where along each step of the process, we relived a little bit of our childhood. We’d love to hear of your earliest memories of seeing or using cane inspired furniture. Write to us on xxxx and lets share some stories, over chai, perhaps?!
